Raku is a traditional Japanese firing technique. It involves firing the piece to 1850 deg quickly, normally within 45 minutes and removing it from the kiln at this temperature. The piece is then submerged into a lidded can in order to achieve reduction. Due to the thermal shock of this firing process, breakage is high. Therefore raku is normally more expensive than functional
wear.

Raku is not food safe. It will not hold water. To maintain the finish on the piece do not expose it to direct sunlight.
